I want everyone in Paisley and across West Scotland to be able to access the information on this website, regardless of ability or the technology you use. This accessibility statement explains what I've done to make that possible and how you can get help if something isn't working for you.
What I've Done
This website has been built with accessibility in mind. The following measures have been taken:
Structure and navigation: the site uses a clear heading hierarchy, semantic HTML elements, and descriptive link text so that screen readers and assistive technology can interpret the content correctly. The main navigation is accessible via keyboard.
Colour and contrast: text and background colour combinations have been chosen to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast requirements. Interactive elements like buttons and links are visually distinct from surrounding content.
Text and readability: body text is set at a readable size and the layout responds to different screen sizes. The site works on mobile phones, tablets, and desktop computers. You can zoom in up to 200% without losing content or functionality.
Images: all images include alternative text descriptions so that screen reader users can understand their content.
Forms: contact forms use clear placeholder text and labels. Required fields are indicated. Error messages are displayed clearly.
Keyboard navigation: all interactive elements — links, buttons, form fields, and navigation — can be accessed and operated using a keyboard alone.
Motion and animation: animations on this site are subtle and decorative. They do not convey essential information. Users who prefer reduced motion (via their operating system settings) will see a simplified experience.
Known Limitations
While I've made every effort to ensure this website is accessible, there may be areas where it falls short. Known limitations include:
Older blog content: some blog posts may contain images without alt text if they were uploaded before accessibility checks were in place. I am working to review and update older content.
Third-party content: if embedded content from external services is used in blog posts (such as videos), I cannot guarantee that those services meet the same accessibility standards.
PDF documents: any downloadable documents will be provided in accessible formats where possible. If you need a document in a different format, please contact me.
Feedback and Assistance
If you have difficulty accessing any part of this website, or if you have suggestions for how I can improve accessibility, I want to hear from you. Please get in touch:
Email: william@williamwallace.co
I will do my best to respond within 5 working days and to resolve any accessibility issues as quickly as possible.
Alternative Formats
If you need information from this website in an alternative format — large print, audio, easy read, or another format — please contact me and I will do my best to accommodate your request.
Campaign Materials
Accessibility extends beyond this website. If you need campaign materials (leaflets, manifesto, policy documents) in accessible formats, including large print, Braille, audio, or translated versions, please let me know. I believe everyone should have equal access to information about the candidates standing for election.
Standards
This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines are published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and are the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility.
Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with my response to an accessibility concern, you can contact the Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com or by calling 0808 800 0082.
